13 dead, 38 injured in explosion at Chinese-funded nickel plant in Indonesia

At least 13 people were killed and 38 injured in an explosion at a Chinese-funded nickel-processing plant in eastern Indonesia. The plant, owned by PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS), is located in the Morowali Industrial Park in Central Sulawesi province. The explosion occurred during repair work on a furnace, causing a flammable liquid to ignite and resulting in a blast that also caused nearby oxygen tanks to explode. The facility where the incident took place is operated by PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry, a local unit of China's Jiangsu Delong Nickel Industry.
